August 26 — International Dog Day 🐾
Toronto animal lovers, parents & families! 💛
For International Dog Day on Wednesday, August 26, Yoga Kawa will be welcoming a group of adorable Corgi puppies to our new yoga, sound bath & wellness studio at 539A Mt Pleasant Road, Toronto — but there’s a more meaningful reason behind this particular day.
Like many animal lovers and parents, we’ve found some of the recent stories of animals being harmed incredibly difficult to see, particularly cases involving children and teenagers — including Wang Wang and her puppies in China, Orelha in Brazil, and the recent California sea lion case.
It made us think:
What can we do to nurture empathy and respect for animals from a young age?
We certainly can’t solve animal cruelty with one puppy event. But we can use International Dog Day as an opportunity to do something positive in our community — teaching children that animals are living beings with feelings, boundaries and needs of their own, and that loving an animal also means learning how to care for and protect them.
Throughout the afternoon, we’ll have Puppy Yoga, a special Kids Puppy Cuddle & Care Club, and finish the day with a relaxing Puppy Cuddle Sound Bath.
During the Kids Puppy Cuddle & Care Club, we’ll talk about puppy welfare — how to approach and interact with puppies gently, recognize when a dog needs space, understand their basic needs, and learn ways we can care for and protect dogs in our communities. We’ll keep it fun with puppy trivia and plenty of Corgi cuddle time. 🐶💛
Our puppy experiences run from 2:30–7:30 PM, with proper rest, nap, water and potty breaks built into the day for our little guests, of course. 💤🐾
We’re also donating $5 from each main experience ticket to the Justice for Animals Foundation in support of animal protection.
Recent cases involving young people affected us. We can’t solve animal cruelty with a puppy event, but perhaps we can help plant a small seed: encouraging children to recognize that animals have needs, feelings and boundaries, and to grow up wanting to care for and protect them.
If even a few children leave thinking a little more about what an animal needs, rather than only what we want from an animal, we think that’s worthwhile.
